First appearing in winter, 1967, the Reston directory has grown
from listing a few hundred households to about 20,000 homes, and from
a few dozen businesses to more than 3,200. But it has never wavered
from its mission to describe what makes Reston unique and to catalog
the people and institutions that contribute to this special place.

- All information is verified, as much as possible
- Residential listings carry complete names (and often more than
one), zip codes as well as street names, and there are no abbreviations.
- Since 1977, each directory cover has been a photograph of a
major community site. Possibilities are volunteered, and annually
there is widespread speculation about the subject matter.
- New Town's business inventory remains one of the most complete
available, because it includes many small firms, and is constantly
up-dated. In the 1970s the developer contracted to use our data
in the initial thrust to attract national firms to Reston.
- Photographs appear throughout the directory, and are volunteered.
- High quality paper prolongs the directory's shelf-life, important
to many who keep every issue.
